Buying Guides

As Star Wars: Legion is a customizable miniatures game, you will almost certainly want to build your collection beyond just the Core Set. However, as the number of available expansions grows, you may wonder just what exactly you should get next. I have put together some guides to help you as you grow your legion, starting with a word on buying multiple Core Sets.

Of course, each individual will value different aspects of each product differently. For some players, the look of the models and poses of the figures will matter more, while the most competitive players may care most about the statistics and gameplay mechanics different units provide. I have tried to address some of these aspects in my assessments, but ultimately you, the buyer, will have to judge what is right for you.

Should You Buy Multiple Core Sets?

If you are planning on collecting both Imperial and Rebel armies, then buying a second Core Set is a very cost effective option. Even though you won't be able to use the duplicate copies of Vader and Luke, the second core still gives you one support and two corps units for each side. That's 6 units (and several upgrade cards) for $90 MSRP, rather than paying up to $150 for them separately. You will also end up with more dice, movement tools, and another measuring tool, all of which are a great convenience while playing, not to mention additional barricades in case you lose some or want to incorporate some into custom terrain pieces. Plus, since this does leave you with an extra Vader and Luke, you can feel free to experiment with alternate paint schemes, or even try your hand at modifying the figures in your own unique way. All in all, the Core Set is a terrific value, even if you have already purchased one.

Even if you only want to collect one faction, if you happen to have a friend who wants to collect the opposite faction, then splitting two Core Sets between can save you both a good amount of money. And if you don't find somebody willing to split a core, a second core is still a pretty good value for single faction players. When bought individually, one AT-RT expansion, two Rebel Troopers expansions, a dice pack, and a movement tools and range ruler pack combine for $105

However, before you decide to purchase multiple Core Sets, there are some things you should know. First of all, the Stormtrooper, Rebel Trooper, 74-Z Speeder Bikes, and AT-RT expansion boxes all include upgrade cards that are not available in the Core Set, namely Impact Grenades, Grappling Hooks, and Comms Jammer (though these upgrade cards are not exclusive to these expansions.) In addition, the Speeder Bikes and AT-RT expansions both feature an alternate sculpt, which is slightly different from the figures in the Core Set. If these things are important to you then you may want to take a closer look at these expansions before you decide to skip over them.
